The designs woven into an Oriental rug reflect the distinctive artistry of a rug weaving area (region). Authentic village and nomadic rugs woven on small looms for personal use were produced in Turkey and the surrounding areas of the Caucasus, Iran, and East Balkans. These areas represent only a fraction of rug producing regions.

Like a masters painting, this remarkable art form remains faithful to its origins and simultaneously allows for creative license in combining color and design that make up each rugs’ unique appeal. The weavers creating these masterpieces are taught from early childhood the intricate techniques of rug weaving. They become masters of a craft that allows them to incorporate traditional designs with personal interpretations depiciting many of their life aspects from marriage, to childbirth, to deeply held spiritual beliefs.

From spinning the wool, to dying the wool, to weaving the rug, the weaver puts his or her very soul into each piece.

The rug is a true reflection of a person and one’s culture to be walked upon, sat upon, and lived upon, only improving with time and age.
